Our Story

«InDONNAtiόn» Curriculum Vitae

The female vocal ensemble "InDONNAtiόn" was created in 2012 by the acclaimed conductor Dimitris Ktistakis and consists of solists and professional musicians. The name "InDONNAtiόn" is a pun of the musical term Intonation (tonality of the sound) and the word “Donna” (woman). The unique characteristic of "InDONNAtiόn" is the original choreographed approach to choral music in a unique combination of motion and sound. The choreography and kinesiology is directed by the talented Greek choreographers Faye Soukou and Eleni Markou. The vocal ensemble is accompanied by renowned pianist Froso Ast. Ktistaki who is also an assistant conductor of the choir and a singer of the ensemble. Since 2016, "InDONNAtiόn" operates under the auspices of the Municipal Conservatory of Larissa.

"InDONNAtiόn" aspires to bring the wider public closer to choral singing and bring together artists from different backgrounds highlighting the notion that through partnerships and choreographed movement, choral singing may rise to a whole new genre. The concerts are characterized by excellent interpretation and high artistic qualities in a demanding repertoire.

The repertoire extends from traditional Greek music to classical songs, pop, rock, gospel, jazz, spirituals, and also compositions created solely for the ensemble itself. "InDONNAtiόn" has inspired renowned composers, who created new pieces. Greek composer Christos Samaras composed «Pater Noster» exclusively for "InDONNAtiόn", presented in world premiere at the International Choir contest of INTERKULTUR in Corfu in 2016. In 2018 Dimitris Ktistakis arranged for "InDONNAtiόn" the anthem of Eurovision composed by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and presented it on the national television on the occasion of Eurovision 2018.

The choir has repeatedly been invited by the National Television to present choreographed choral songs. During these six years (2012-2018), "InDONNAtiόn" performed at unique locations such as art galleries and museums (Ionian Academy of Corfu Municipal Conservatory of Larissa, etc.) and has collaborated with several successful ensembles: Lexington High School of USA, Opera Chaotique, Youth Symphony Orchestra Larissa Musical Association of Larissa, Mixed Choir of ERT, etc.). In addition to that, "InDONNAtiόn" participates in local events and celebrations and steadily supports social purpose initiatives (Animus Rehabilitation Center, Cancer Congress, opening of Diachronic Museum of Larissa etc.).

"InDONNAtiόn" showcases an international acknowledgement. The last four years the vocal ensemble has successively participated at International Choir contests achieving top distinctions.

In October 2015 in Kalamata "InDONNAtiόn" won a Gold Medal while in October 2016 in Corfu, won a Gold Medal and 1st place distinction in the world contest Choir Competition INTERKULTUR. The female vocal ensemble received the highest rating among the Greek choruses of all categories of the competition. Because of the later success, "InDONNAtiόn" was qualified to participate in the 3rd European Choir Games Champion Competition and Grand Prix of Nations, in Riga, Latvia, in July 2017. "InDONNAtiόn" won a gold medal there as well. In October 2018, at Beira Interior International Choir Competition & Festival the vocal ensemble was declared winner of its category and also won the Grand Prize of the competition.

"InDONNAtiόn" has successfully collaborated with a wide range of professionals showcasing an extrovert attitude bringing choral singing to a different level. The vocal ensemble has worked with classical orchestras, classic ballet dancers, contemporary dancers, jazz/rock musicians, parkourists and modern dance performers.
